White Hall’s Farmers Market aims to bring community together

WHITE HALL, W.Va. (WBOY) — The unofficial start of summer means a lot more Farmers Markets are opening up for the season, including one in Fairmont.

On Saturday, White Hall held its first market of the season, where the first 75 people who came in received a free reusable shopping bag. More than 100 people were in attendance along with approximately 16 vendors and live music.

This is White Hall’s third year offering a farmers market, which officials say has grown significantly.

“It’s just nice to see people get out, it’s something they can do,” White Hall Mayor Jason DeFrance said.

“You know, it’s cheap…you can walk around and look at stuff if you like to find—if you find something that’s great, you’re helping a small business and that’s what we’re all about. We’re a small community, we want to help the community, we want to help the small business.”

Kathy Herron, owner of Herron’s Farmers’ Market and Crafts, described the event as “very helpful.”

“I don’t have a store that I sell out of so I go to the different markets and you get to meet a lot of repeating customers and just being out and enjoy the weather and see the different artists,” Herron said.

The White Hall Farmers Market will be open every second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with different themes each time.

The dates for the farmers market and their themes include:

  • June 8, flowers and bees
  • June 22, WV day
  • July 13, Kids Day
  • July 27, Christmas in July
  • August 10, National Farmers Market Week
  • August 24, Health Day
  • September 14, Wags and wiggles
  • September 28, Fall Harvest Day
  • October 12, Last Market Day
