Police are hunting for thieves who beat, bound and stole $20,000 from a man trying to buy cryptocurrency at a Manhattan hotel.
The 40-year-old victim said a friend arranged a cash-for-crypto exchange at the Sonder Battery Park Hotel on Washington St. near Battery Place with an unknown buyer at 5 p.m. on April 27, according to police.
The broker met the victim in the hotel’s lobby before leading him to the third floor, where the bogus crypto vendor shoved him into a room and two other thieves were waiting in ambush, according to law enforcement.
The crooks punched the victim, bound his wrists and ankles, gagged him and snatched his cash before hightailing it, cops said.
Investigators are looking for three men ages 18 to 22 with black hair.
Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-8477.
