Syracuse (5-3, 0-1) faces its second most frequent rival in Cornell (7-1) for the 128th meeting between the Central New York rivals in the JMA Wireless Dome on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 8:00 p.m.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange are coming off their first ACC matchup of the season against Virginia, an 84-62 defeat. Sophomore guard J.J. Starling scored a team-high 16 points in the contest.
The Big Red are on a four-game winning streak, which includes a Saturday victory versus Lafayette. Cornell was led by Sean Hansen with 19 points.
THE SYRACUSE-CORNELL SERIES
Syracuse has a 96-31 advantage in the all-time series with Cornell. The last matchup between the Orange and the Big Red was on Dec. 17, 2022, where Syracuse won the affair, 78-63. The Orange have an unblemished 29-0 record against Cornell in games played inside the Dome and Syracuse owns a 42-game winning streak in the series.
LAST TIME OUT
Starling led the Orange offense with 16 points and two assists at Virginia. Sophomore forward Maliq Brown was the other Syracuse performer to score in double-digits with 10 points. Brown also grabbed a squad-best six rebounds.

Sophomore guard Judah Mintz leads the pack, averaging 18.5 points per game and shooting 44% from the field. Sophomore forward Chris Bell is the second most productive scorer on the team, averaging 13.4 points per game and 2.88 3-pointers per game. Sophomore guard Justin Taylor (7.0 ppg.) averages a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game. Starling is the other Orange performer averaging double-digit scoring with 11.9 per outing.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Cornell is led by senior forward Sean Hansen, who averages 12.4 points per game. Guards Cooper Noard and Chris Manon average 11.9 and 10.8 points per game, respectively. Reserve forward Guy Ragland Jr. averages a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. Starting guard Isaiah Gray leads the Big Red in assists with 24 total.

Mintz is one of 20 watch-list candidates for the 2024 Bob Cousy Award, which is annually presented to the top point guard in Division I men’s basketball. Orange followers are encouraged to participate in three rounds of Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, on hoophallawards.com.
Mintz is also on the watch list for the Naismith Trophy and John R. Wooden Award. Each list in comprised of 50 student-athletes. The lists for each award will be narrowed throughout the year, and winners of the awards will be announced later in the season.
