Overnight, firefighters held in check a wildfire that charred thousands of acres and prompted evacuations in Riverside County but have yet to contain the blaze.

Cal Fire issued an update shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday stating that 3,750 acres had burned, just 50 acres more than the previous night’s final report, but said containment was still at 0%.

The Nixon Fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Tule Valley Road and Richard Nixon Boulevard in Aguanga, located about 20 miles east of Temecula.

More than 200 firefighters, two helicopters and 44 engines have been assigned to battle the blaze, according to Cal Fire.

Mandatory evacuation orders remain in place for areas north of Cooper Cienega Trail, south of Bailey Road, east of Holly Ann and west of Terwilliger Road.

Evacuation warnings have been issued for homes north of the San Diego-Riverside County Line, south of Heller Springs Road, east of Terwilliger Road and west of Table Mountain Truck Trail.

At least one structure has been destroyed in the fire.

An evacuation center is open at Temecula Valley High School located at 31555 Rancho Vista Road. Animal services will be on-site to assist with animals.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
