Shohei Ohtani’s arrival to the Dodgers has been marked by a terrible gambling scandal that involved Ohtani’s former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was linked to a booking scandal where he owed millions of dollars.

According to the New York Times, Mizuhara is reportedly weighing his options for a guilty plea after having stolen funds from the Dodgers star to cover his debts owed to a bookie, Ohtani’s legal team immediately began investigating the claim while the MLB began its investigation two days after the interpreter was fired.
Ohtani has been cooperating with law enforcement and investigators from all over, including the Revenue Service’s criminal division, the Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. attorney’s office for the Central District of California after it was suspected that the player was involved in the scheme, however, the translator confessed to having stolen the money from the player’s account.
Ippei will be legally represented by Michael G. Freedman, a former federal prosecutor who has experience with white-collar defense. Mizuhara claimed that he placed hi-stakes bets but never bet on baseball.
As the investigation continues, Ohtani is being the most cooperative he can and with the MLB after they are being very thorough with their examination as they are very strict on the league’s regulations on gambling and the responsibilities of players and staff.
