Second child dies as police probe cause of tragic house fire


The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has confirmed the death of another child who was injured in a fire in Napier Road yesterday (July 13). 

The child was one of five people, including two other children and two adults, taken to hospital with injuries. 

40 firefighters from across Stratford, Barking and Ilford stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a fire at 8.30am. 

They were supported by London Ambulance Service colleagues and London’s Air Ambulance.

The fire has now claimed the lives of two children, with the remaining two in serious condition. 

One of the adults taken to hospital has also been confirmed to be in serious condition. 

Ast Com Patrick Goulbourne said: “This is a terribly sad incident and the thoughts of all of us at London Fire Brigade are with the family, friends and all those affected at this difficult time.

“Staff will be in the local community over the coming days to offer support and advice where needed.

“The welfare of our staff is very important and all those involved will be offered support from our counselling and trauma service.

“Sadly, one child was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday morning, and overnight a second child died in hospital.

“Two other children and two adults were also taken to hospital, where the children and one adult remain in a serious condition.”

A spokesperson for LFB said the Metropolitan Police have now joined the investigation into the cause of the fire.
