[ad_1]

A crash on the South Ring Road brought traffic to a crawl for rush-hour commuters this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene after a four-car collision on the N40 Westbound near Douglas shortly before 9.30am today.

The incident caused delays of up to an hour for hundreds of motorists as a lengthy tailback formed along the N40, through the tunnel and back up the M8 Southbound. Gardaí thankfully reported no injuries and the crash was cleared shortly before 10.30am this morning.

Traffic is now flowing smoothly in the area and throughout the main Dunkettle Interchange. You can check out more details on this morning’s crash below.

Delay times

The TII is warning of delays of almost 30 minutes on the N40 Westbound this morning. Meanwhile there are still heavy delays on the M8 Southbound, with a tailback now forming on the N8 Eastbound just off the Glanmire Roundabout.

Poor weather conditions

The crash this morning took place during poor weather conditions, and the national forecaster says we can expect heavy downpours on Leeside up until at least 7pm this evening.

All motorists are urged to slow down and allow additional ‘braking space’ between them and the car in front.

Vehicles now using the hard shoulder

It’s against the advice for motorists who find themselves stuck behind a crash on a motorway – the hard shoulder is meant to be kept clear for emergency vehicles and any cars which may suddenly need space.

But scores of vehicles can now be seen using the hard shoulder to progress beyond Junction 9 westbound – do take care if you are stuck in traffic there – some major maneuvers being pulled.

Traffic backed up the hill from the Dunkettle on the M8 Dublin road

If you are coming down the M8 from the Glanmire side – expect delays – the traffic is now starting to back up a kilometre or more from the Dunkettle and the entrance to the Jack Lynch tunnel – avoid, avoid, avoid!

Major delays to airport and getting past Dunkettle and through jack Lynch tunnel

TII is now warning of delays of up to 45 minutes getting from the JLT to Cork airport – avoid N40 going eastbound if at all possible. Go through the city instead or delay your journey.
