Proposed Changes to Workplace Compensation Legislation Discussed in HoA

Proposed amendments to Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation legislation that will provide bereavement counselling services for families after a fatal workplace accident is making its way through the House of Assembly.

If passed, the changes would allow paid bereavement services for surviving dependents for any incident that occurred on or after January 1 of 2022.

Workplace NL received a number of requests in 2022 asking that bereavement counselling be added to other supports provided to surviving families.

Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the few provinces that still does not provide the service through Workers’ Compensation.
