PM Update: Limited rains slowly move offshore tonight; drier, somewhat hot Sunday

Through tonight: Stray showers or a storm may linger into the night, especially east and southeast of town. We may see some stars briefly, but there’s not much time between clouds trying to clear and patchy fog developing nearer dawn. Mid-60s to low 70s are as cool as we get, with humidity remaining fairly high, though not oppressive.

Tomorrow (Sunday): Sunshine levels are a bit uncertain, but it should be brighter than not, especially given that we only have about a 10 percent chance of a stray shower or storm. Upper 80s to low 90s may feel closer to mid-90s with only a slow, brief decline in humidity during the afternoon, when dew points eye the lower 60s.
Showers and storms are slightly possible by late evening through about Monday sunrise. Higher, more humid dew points are back, probably preventing us from cooling beyond the low to mid-70s.
Thunderstorms and humidity return for the workweek
Monday should mark the first full day of humid, stormier conditions returning to the region, which may last through Thursday. With a more typical summertime atmosphere — containing very moist low-to-mid-70s dew points — comes instability. Daily thunderstorm chances largely stay unremarkable, but the atmosphere could still produce a couple or few intense storms during the workweek, shaded in the brown, below.
The best (but not guaranteed) chance for severe storms may be Tuesday and Wednesday. Timing and details aren’t a certainty, but we can be cautiously optimistic that welcome rain chances are around this coming week. We have reason to hope that largely nonsevere storms can cool us off and bring us water.
