President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is eyeing to make the Philippines a leader in smart and sustainable transportation in the Indo-Pacific region.

At the Indo-Pacific Business Forum, Marcos Jr. said that he has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) to implement projects that meet the needs of Filipinos and businesses.

The Philippines, according to him, is adopting new technologies to make its transport systems smarter and more responsive to changing needs.

“There is a long way to go still, but we are committed to making the Philippines a leader in smart and sustainable transportation. And we believe that with the right investments and partnerships, we will achieve that goal,” the President added.

While he acknowledged the country has yet to achieve a seamless smart transportation, Marcos Jr. said it is still in the pipeline through the enforcement of policies by the DPWH, DOTr, and the NEDA.

“We have a wide range of programs and projects underway, all aimed at making our transport systems more efficient and our cities smarter,” the chief executive said.

“At the heart of this effort is our National Transport Policy. This policy recognizes the crucial role that transportation plays in our socio-economic development,” he added.
