The Japanese consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, says one Japanese man suffered minor injuries when the car he was in came under attack in the southern port city on Friday.

The consulate says the Japanese national is a resident of Karachi. It says he is being treated at a hospital, but that his condition is not life-threatening.

Local media quoted authorities as saying that a suspect with a bomb attacked a van carrying Japanese nationals. Police are investigating details.

Karachi is Pakistan’s largest city, with a large port and an international airport. It is a home to many Japanese businesses.

The country has seen a series of terrorist attacks against Chinese nationals. Late last month, five Chinese engineers were killed when a car loaded with explosives rammed into a convoy heading to a dam construction site in the country’s northwest.
