Max Homa trolls Scottie Scheffler’s arrest drama after PGA Championship

Max Homa didn’t walk away with the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday, but he became an Instagram legend after capping off a wild PGA Championship weekend with a top-tier zinger.

Upon shooting a 2-under 69 in the final round of the major at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., tying for 35th with an 8-under overall, Homa reflected on his performance with a cheeky reference to fellow PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffer, who was arrested before the start of the second round Friday and proceeded to finish with a 5-under 66 that day.

“Frustrating week in KY. Lost to a guy who was literally in jail Friday morning. Tough look for me. The journey continues in Fort Worth next week,” Homa captioned the Instagram post that featured pics from the action at Valhalla, where Scheffler tied for eighth overall.

Homa, ranked ninth in the world, was coming off an impressive showing at the Masters last month, finishing tied for third  — a career-best — at Augusta National.

He did enjoy something of a social media victory lap, as his followers could not stop laughing over the comment.

“Caption of the year,” one user commented while another posted, “You’re the best, Max. Love your work! 😂”

Homa, 33, will next participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge, which tees off Thursday at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, with Scheffler, 27, also in the field.

The reigning Masters champion had a controversial weekend at Valhalla, where he was detained outside the course in the early hours of Friday morning and subsequently charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officer directing traffic.

Scheffler returned to the course shortly after 9 a.m. Friday and completed his second round.

“I was shaking, I would say in shock and in fear,”’ Scheffler said of the ordeal Friday.

Despite climbing up the leaderboard in the second round, Scheffler — who recently became a father — went off the rails Saturday, posting a double bogey on the second hole en route to a 2-over 73 for the third round.

Although he posted a 6-under 65 on Sunday, it was Xander Schauffele who came out on top, winning his first-ever career major with a total of 21-under for the weekend.

The charges against Scheffler are expected to be dropped, No Laying Up reported Sunday.
