London travel news LIVE: Severe delays on major Northern Line stretch and on Bakerloo

Severe delays are affecting the Northern and Bakerloo lines this evening due to a signal failure and a fire alert on the London Underground.
A signal failure is causing the Bakerloo Line delays between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone, while on the Northern Line there are severe delays southbound between Camden Town and Kennington via Charing Cross due to a fire alert at Oval, says TfL.
Elsewhere, the M26 has re-opened westbound, between Junction Three and the M25 and A21, near Chipstead, after delays caused by a “very serious collision” between a lorry and a van.
Emergency services had to attend after the “very serious collision”.
But National Highways confirmed that the road had reopened as of 4pm on Wednesday evening.
On the Tube, the Piccadilly Line remains closed to Heathrow from Acton Town on Wednesday due to engineering works, but is due to reopen on Thursday.
There are again minor delays on the Central Line due to a shortage of trains.

Nine injured including six officers as police van crashes into London bus

Nine people, including six police officers, have been taken to hospital after a police van and a bus crashed in south-east London on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Met Police said: “Police were called to Kennington Park Road, SE11 at about 11.32hrs on Wednesday, 14 February following reports of a collision involving a police van and a bus.
“Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues in LAS and LFB.
“Nine people were taken to hospital, including a six police officers. Their injuries have been assessed as not life threatening or life changing.
“Road closures remain in place while officers deal with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”

Lines between London and New Cross/Deptford disrupted

A fault with the signalling system between London and New Cross/Deptford means all lines are currently blocked.
Trains may be cancelled, delayed or diverted. This is expected until 5pm.
Southeastern routes:
Services will not be able to run to / from London Cannon Street, via Greenwich, or to / from New Cross and St Johns. Trains will be diverted into alternative London terminals, terminated short of their destination, or cancelled.
Thameslink:
Services between Rainham and London/Luton were held at stations and delayed between 1.45pm and 2.15pm. The line was reopened has closed again until 4pm.
During this time, services will be unable to run between London Bridge and Charlton/Dartford in either direction, with services terminating and restarting elsewhere.
Even once the lines are opened again, customers will probably have to expect delays.

Whistleblowers give inside track on clapped-out Central Line trains

Tube insiders on Wednesday raised alarming new concerns about the state of the Central line — and warned that passengers faced years of chaos due to “inexcusable” delays in upgrading the clapped-out trains.
Whistle-blowers contacted the Evening Standard to reveal a multitude of “foreseeable” problems on the line caused by years of under-investment.
Transport for London does not deny that ongoing funding problems mean that it is having to patch-up the 30-year-old Central line trains in a bid to keep them running for another 10 to 15 years as it cannot afford to replace the fleet.
But it insists that safety is paramount and it would never allow an unsafe train to enter service.
