In a triumphant conclusion to Pride Month, that also ushered in Los Angeles Black Pride Weekend , Girls Gone Active, in collaboration with Hotel Per La and PressPassLA hosted the inaugural Sadie Hawkins Pride Ball.
The event was a spirited celebration dedicated to the often-underrepresented female-identifying queer community, particularly focusing on BIPOC members, and their allies within the LGBTQIA+ community.
From the moment guests entered the elegant confines of Hotel Per La, the atmosphere was charged with joy and inclusivity, just like the feeling the rainbow flag of the LGBTQ community evokes. The evening was more than just a gala; it was a movement that embraced and celebrated the unique beauty of every attendee.
The guest list read like a who’s who of Los Angeles’s best brightest LGBTQ influencers and creatives, including non-binary influencer and musician Marcy, digital creator Victor Ramos, comedian Antonio Neville, and fashion luminary Nene La Shiro. Face cards were fierce and fashion was on point as guest after guest showed up to light up the event in their own unique way.
Keeping the evening’s energy high were the night’s co hosts, Executive Matchmaker and TV host J Lamar Nichols, and Red Carpet host and actress Demi JaNell, whose charisma and charm guided guests through the festivities with flair.
Celebrity judge Walter Mendez, renowned for dressing icons like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez was joined by actress Apryl Jones, who brought their valuable point of view to the judges tables for the evening’s festivities. Mendez’s keen eye for haute couture and Jones’s infectious charm elevated the evening’s competitive segments, including the energetic “Panther On The Runway” Catwalk Competition and the electrifying Lip Sync Battle Royale.
Former Miss Alaska USA turned actress and content creator Brooke Ashley Rose Johnson stole the spotlight with a flawless catwalk performance that earned her perfect scores and won over the audience’s hearts. The cherry on the rainbow sundae occurred during the climactic “Face Card Never Declines” ceremony, which crowned the evening’s Queen & Queen of the Ball.
Throughout the night, DJ Shai, founder of Girls Gone Active, encapsulated the event’s ethos: “Pride is about celebrating everything that makes you, YOU! Even within the LGBTQIA+ community, there is still marginalization. This event was created for those who still feel like they don’t fit in. Pride Ball’s motto? “And why should you when we are all born to stand out.”
Adding to the glamour of the evening were the gifts of course. VIPs were treated to a luxurious gifting lounge featuring carefully curated items from BLK, Yuni mindful beauty, Pixi Beauty, and WhoHasIt.co.
Girls Gone Active, alongside their partners, Hotel Per La and Press Pass LA Media Group, succeeded in not only hosting a memorable event but creating a platform that celebrates and uplifts the voices of marginalized communities within the LGBTQIA+ community. The Sadie Hawkins Pride Ball will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of Pride Month in Los Angeles, marking a milestone in the ongoing journey towards inclusivity and acceptance. If you missed this year’s inaguaral event make sure to check back next year during Pride, for it’s Sophmore season!
