Fred Again makes classic English backpacker mistake
[ad_1]
British artist and producer Fred Again has only been on tour in Australia a few days, and he’s already committed a cardinal sin…
An Aussie job that travellers do every year has been slammed by one British backpacker for this reason.
Now the artist and producer, famous for his love of parentheses, as well as for hits like Marea (we’ve lost dancing), Delilah (pull me out of this) and Danielle (smile on my face), is doing a proper tour of the country, starting in Melbourne, then heading to the Gold Coast, and then finishing in Sydney.
Except… as many fans have pointed out, it’s not a proper tour of the country. Like millions of backpackers before him, Fred Again has flown into Sydney, is doing a tour of the east coast, and that’s (probably) it.
It may sound innocent (and he did hint “this is not the end” in an Instagram story) but the bloodhounds of Instagram are having none of it.
On his Instagram post announcing his tour locations, hundreds of comments came in calling for “justice for Perth” and making remarks like “someone tell him Perth has direct flights to London” and “why does everyone hate Perth?”

Further comments included: “Pretty rude to dog Perth againagainagain” and “COME TO PERTH!!!!” One Twitter (now X) user even wrote: “fred again playing a show on my birthday on the Gold Coast and no Perth show feels like I’m getting bullied by a teenager.”
Oh, and then there was: “Hey um Perth is actually a whole city in the country of Australia x” and “What did Perth do to you man?”
Then there was the highly optimistic comment from a pub in Newcastle: “Fancy a show in Newy?”
While this is all a bit of a laugh (and while Fred has said he wants to support independent venues and has a habit of doing last-minute smaller scale gigs, so a show in Perth or Newcastle is still not out of the question), it does reveal a common theme among tourists coming to Australia: due to its geography and infrastructure, certain areas tend to get all the attention.

Until we get a high speed train service connecting the east coast to the Northern Territory and Western Australia (and don’t hold your breath on that), this will probably remain the case for a good while to come.
