First Alert Weather Day: Excessive heat warning ends Friday night
[ad_1]
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Day 3 of our First Alert Weather days came in hot and sunny to close out a brutal stretch of unseasonably high temperatures.
Our overnight low of 87 degrees will break the record warm low of 85 set all the way back in 1977!
The average overnight low for this time of year is 76 degrees.
Most Valley cities topped 110 degrees in the late afternoon but stayed under Friday’s record high of 115 set back in 1985.
Light showers have been reported in the upper elevations of the White Mountains in eastern Arizona as a flow of moisture pushes up from the south, rotating around this monster ridge of high pressure that has delivered this record heat.
Our excessive heat warning still runs through Friday night.
It’s been plenty warm in the High Country, with Flagstaff recording its earliest 90-degree day on record, with 91 on Thursday.
The ridge will begin pushing to the east of Arizona, which should drop our temperatures slightly over the weekend and introduce more clouds across the deserts.
This push will also bring a slight chance of thunderstorms, mainly in the higher elevations of eastern Arizona over the weekend.
Look for highs to stay below 110 Sunday through Tuesday, with higher heat coming again by mid-week.
