The man who was stabbed to death during an attack near Eiffel Tower in central Paris was Filipino-German, the French Embassy said Monday.

“Having learned of the victim’s dual nationality, France sends its condolences to his family and loved ones, to the Filipino people and to the German people,” it said in a statement.

French Ambassador Marie Fontanel said the man was a tourist with German-Filipino nationality.

“On behalf of the French government, I wish to address my deepest condolences to his family and relatives and to the Filipino and German people,” Fontanel said in a separate statement.

Reports said the attacker, who was immediately arrested, was a French citizen known to intelligence authorities.

Police responding to the scene used a taser to neutralize the attacker.

Two others were injured in the attack — a French and a British national.

French authorities said the suspect was born in France in 1997 and previously sentenced to four years in prison in 2016.

The attacker also reportedly have “serious psychiatric disorders,” French officials said. —Michaela Del Callar/KBK, GMA Integrated News
