Drones target military HQ, air base in Myanmar’s capital | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News

Myanmar’s pro-democracy camp says it launched drone attacks on the military headquarters and an air base in the heavily guarded capital.

The National Unity Government says the operations were staged simultaneously in Naypyitaw on Thursday.

Myanmar’s state-run broadcaster said 13 drones flew into an area where the headquarters and airfield are located. It said they were all shot down and there was no damage to people or buildings.

But an independent local media outlet said two soldiers were killed and 15 other people were injured. It also said some buildings were damaged.

The attacks come amid intensified fighting between the military and ethnic armed groups in northern Myanmar since March. The military is losing ground as many strongholds have been seized.
