Why George Lucas Removed Star Wars’ Strangest Jedi Master

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace introduced a slew of new Jedi, yet one member of the Jedi Council had to be removed out of fear of confusing audiences.

New Jedi Order, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, was announced during Star Wars Celebration 2023. The film was announced along with several other upcoming projects set in the Galaxy Far, Far Away, including two other features which will be helmed by Dave Filoni and James Mangold, respectively. These films will run the gamut of the Star Wars timeline, ranging from long before the Jedi Order was founded to “15 years after the events of Rise of Skywalker.”

The Star Wars Movie Has Suffered Some Setbacks

Though the project is still far from shooting, New Jedi Order has already suffered a series of various setbacks. In April 2023, it was reported that the film had lost its lead in the form of Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. This came hot on the heels of the news that Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, who had previously been slated to co-write the film along with Justin Britt-Gibson, had also stepped away from the project.

Ridley’s isn’t the only Star Wars project to receive a positive update, as director Shawn Levy’s own mystery feature has recently added Jonathan Trooper on as screenwriter for the film. Levy’s own project was announced several months prior to those made public during Star Wars Celebration 2023, though it is arguably the one that fans know the least about. Currently, fans have only speculated as to whether the project might involve Adam Driver’s Ben Solo, better known as Kylo Ren, rumors which Levy has staunchly refused to answer one way or the other.

New Jedi Order does not currently have a planned release date.
