NORTHAMPTON: Australia surpassed Pakistan after beating West Indies by 55 runs in the 14th match of the World Championship of Legends 2024 at the County Ground stadium in Northampton on Wednesday.
The Aussies have moved ahead of Pakistan in the points table due to a better Net Run Rate (NRR).
West Indies, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first however, they failed to utilize the opportunity as Australia smashed them with 274/7 in their 20 overs.
Ben Duck scored a 35-ball 100 while Daniel Christian played an aggressive knock and missed his century by one run. Dunk hit 12 fours and 7 sixes in his innings while Christian hit 11 fours and eight sixes.
West Indies in reply tried to chase the big total but the required run rate kept increasing, resulting in them finishing the game at 219/6.
Dwayne Smith scored 64 runs off 40 balls while Ashley Nurse made 36-ball 70. Captain Daren Sammy played a brilliant knock of 33 at 18 Balls. Australian captain Brett Lee was the team’s best bowler with 2/30.
Due to West Indian’s defeat India qualify for the semi-finals. It is pertinent to mention that Australia and Pakistan had already qualified for the semi-finals.
