Amy Adams will star in At the Sea, the latest drama from Kornél Mundruczó, the Hungarian filmmaker behind acclaimed films Pieces of a Woman and White God.
Sea reteams Mundruczó with Kata Wéber, his frequent collaborator who wrote Pieces of a Woman and White God and penned the script for the latest feature.
Producing the drama are AR Content’s Alexander Rodnyansky (Loveless), Ryder Picture Company’s Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett (Dumb Money, Arrival), Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici (Barbarian) and Jon Oakes (Drive). Stuart Manashil and Viktória Petrányi, who produced Pieces of a Woman, are also producing along with Mundruczó.
Per the producers, the story follows the life of a woman who, after a long rehabilitation, returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Principal photography is set to begin in June in Boston.
AR Content, Paul J. Diaz and Hammerstone Studios, which has action movie Boy Kills World starring Bill Skarsgard hitting theaters via Roadside Attractions on April 26, are financing the film. WME Independent will represent U.S. sale rights while Capstone Pictures handles the international rights.
Executive producing are Paul J. Diaz, Maria Breese of 3:33 Creative, Lee Broda of LB Entertainment, Jeff Rice of Jeff Rice Films and Michael Kupisk. Zsofi Oblath and Rachel Rubin will co-produce.
Adams, a six-time Academy Award nominee, last appeared in Disenchanted and Dear Evan Hansen. She next stars in Searchlight Pictures’ Nightbitch, a dark comedy she also produced via her banner Bond Group Entertainment, which will be released Dec. 6. She recently wrapped production on Taika Waititi’s next film, Sony 3000’s Klara and the Sun.
Mundruczó and Wéber’s White God won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2014, while Pieces of a Woman scored Vanessa Kirby an Oscar nomination for best actress.
Adams is repped by WME, Linden Entertainment and Sloane Offer. Mundruczó and Wéber are repped by United Agents and NOVO.
