Taylor Swift Joins Adele And Lana Del Rey In A Historic Feat

[ad_1]

Taylor Swift is steady at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week with The Tortured Poets Department. The title debuted atop the albums ranking in the U.S. 12 frames ago, and it hasn’t stepped aside since.

While Swift’s focus is on her latest full-length, her fans in the U.S. aren’t only listening to that one project. They have continued to stream and buy most of her releases, and as they do, they’ve helped one of her most successful albums make history.

As of this frame, Swift’s 1989 has now lived on the Billboard 200 for 500 weeks. That’s a milestone that’s rarely reached, and only a handful of titles in U.S. history have held on and placed among the most-consumed albums in the country for that long. The pop blockbuster is the first from Swift to do so, and it helps her join two of the most successful women in the music industry.

1989 is just the third album by a woman to rack up 500 stays on the Billboard 200, according to Billboard. Only Adele and Lana Del Rey have also managed the same showing.

Adele’s 21 remains the longest-charting release by a female musician. Her global bestseller has spent 605 weeks on the Billboard 200, though it’s not present on the tally this time around.

Del Rey’s Born to Die comes next on the ranking of the longest-running wins on the Billboard 200 among projects by female stars. That set has managed to find a space on the list for 544 frames. Unlike 21, Born to Die is still going this time around.

1989 currently sits at No. 153 on the chart this week. It rises just one rung from where it sat last period. According to Luminate, Swift’s Grammy-winning collection moved another 9,000 equivalent units in the past tracking frame.

Looking at all artists, the list of names who have earned at least one 500-week-charter expands significantly. The record for the most time spent on the Billboard 200 still belongs to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. That pioneering rock effort is 10 weeks shy of hitting 1,000 frames on the list.
