Canadian GP weather report: Torrential forecast on the horizon

[ad_1]

George Russell starts on pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen alongside him on the front row.

It is an all-McLaren second row, as Lando Norris secured third on the grid ahead of Oscar Piastri in fourth at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Incredibly, Russell and Verstappen set the exact same lap time, something which has previously only happened once in F1 history since the sport moved to three decimal places.

Russell claimed pole as he set the 1:12.000 first, in what were completely dry conditions. The same is absolutely not expected for the Grand Prix!

Heavy rain expected

After significant rain on Friday in Montreal, both third practice and qualifying took place in dry conditions, despite a few very light showers.

Significantly heavier rain is forecast for the race, with there being a chance that the Canadian GP could start on a wet surface. The morning will be dry, before thunderstorms potentially roll in.

However, there is also a possibility that the race gets underway under dry conditions. If the race starts in the dry, then heavy showers will likely impact the Grand Prix mid-race.

This will cause a huge shake up in the strategies, which will make quick thinking by the teams absolutely vital. One eye will need to be kept on the skies at all times!
