Kanpai Classic comes to London, bringing wagyu yakiniku to Soho

They’ve been big in Taiwan and China for a couple of decades and now Kanpai Classic is coming to London. 

Setting up in Soho, on the refurbished section of Wardour Street beside the old Paul A Young store, the restaurant specialises in yakiniku, which means you’ll be getting a portable charcoal cooker at your table. The restaurants focus on wagyu (aged a minimum of 40 days) and that’s what you’ll see in London too, with 10 cuts of wagyu on the menu to choose from. As for the elements that you won’t be grilling yourself, they’ve brought in chef Nicolo Bolognesi, previously at Nobu Portman Square to run that side of things. 

The original restaurants have picked up their fair share of awards, including something called the “World Steak Challenge” which they won this year. 

As for drinks, there will be a large sake list, including 10 exclusive sakes from Japan’s Masuizumi Brewery.

Their founder Soji Hiraide, says “Having introduced wagyu to Taiwan and China, we’re about to do the same in Europe.” That might be a little overstating things when it comes to London and wagyu, but we’re certainly interested to see what they come up with in Soho.
