Tokyo Disney Resort has released the first look inside Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, a ride based on “Tangled” coming to Fantasy Springs.
Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival
Exterior
Cast Members wear purple and brown Corona uniforms.
The entrance to the attraction is near Rapunzel’s tower in the forest section of Fantasy Springs.
The sign resembles a ship’s sail with lanterns tied to the ends of the post.
Queue
In the queue, guests pass village buildings.
The horseshoe prints of Maximus are embedded in the ground.
Bunting of purple flags with golden suns on them crisscross over the pathways. There are lanterns on the bunting periodically.
Guests go inside a dockhouse featuring plans and models for ships.
Oars are in a barrel labeled “Lantern Festival.”
They go up stairs and along a loft overlooking the load area.
A boat full of lanterns hangs over the loading space. A sail with a golden Corona sun is on the wall.
There’s a map of the Kingdom of Corona including the castle on an island, Rapunzel’s tower, and The Snuggly Duckling. A river winds through the forest. This is ostensibly the path guests will take to the lantern festival.
There are wanted posters for the Stabbington Brothers, Flynn Rider, and the Snuggly Duckling thugs.
The stanchions of the queue are wooden poles with ropes connecting them. There are barrels stacked on crates.
Wrought iron chandeliers hang from the ceiling.
A desk features an invitation to the Lantern Festival and advertisements for The Snuggly Duckling.
A poster reads:
By the King and Queen
A Proclamation
Today, the Kingdom of Corona celebrates the Princess’ birthday with the Royal Lantern Festival.
There shall be food, music, dancing, and crafts. Following a special dedication to the lost Princess, the festival will conclude at dusk with the release of the lanterns.
All are invited
A painting shows the King and Queen of Corona in front of their ship, the Royal Unicorn.
Load
A banner painted with stars reads, “Annual Lantern Festival.”
The load area has similar theming to the rest of the queue.
On Ride
On the first-ever “Tangled”-themed ride, guests travel on a gondola to where the floating lanterns gleam. The ride retells the story of “Tangled,” beginning at Rapunzel’s tower.
They pass by wanted posters for Flynn Rider and cute forest critters.
Rapunzel is visible singing “When Will My Life Begin” at the window of her tower.
Flynn Rider is hiding from Maximus among the rocks below.
Maximus sniffs for the criminal.
Keep an eye out for Pascal. The chameleon has a tendency to blend in.
As the ride moves indoors (but still appears to be outside) riders see Rapunzel enjoying her “best day ever” as she swings from tree branches around Flynn.
Across the river is The Snuggly Duckling. Guests can also dine at The Snuggly Duckling.
Rapunzel is seen healing Flynn’s hand with her magical glowing hair.
As the pair reach the lantern festival, so do guests, arriving in a lagoon with the Kingdom of Corona rising above them in the twilight.
Guests find themselves surrounded by floating lanterns of varying sizes with different designs. In the center of the lagoon are Rapunzel, Flynn, and Pascal in their own gondola.
Guests circle the pair as they sing “I See the Light.”
There are other boats, a large ship, and a lighthouse in this scene.
As the ride comes to a close, guests see some of the thugs.
Shorty, dressed as cupid, floats with the help of some lanterns.
Big Nose looks out at Rapunzel and Flynn.
Vladamir plays with two of his ceramic unicorns.
Guests exit among painted murals of other “Tangled” scenes.
Fantasy Springs opens on June 6 at Tokyo DisneySea.
