Here are 3 new digital art exhibitions to check out in Dubai this week
Art in Space
What: The Art of Disarm
Where: Downtown Dubai
Until: Ongoing from May 23
Multidisciplinary artist Bran Symondson is in Dubai for the first time to showcase his unique artwork. Bran’s strong symbolic message centres on disarming weapons. His artworks address environmental and civil rights issues, exploring the juxtaposition of war, gun violence, life, and beauty. One striking example is an AK-47, which the artist has covered in delicate and colourful butterflies to showcase the difference between aggression and fragility. Strongly anti-war, Bran’s transformation of the world’s most prolific weapon into a canvas for art conveys a strong message. You need to see it for yourself and take your time to soak in all the details and the strong message. It’s free to see, but you need to register here if you’re attending on opening night.

What: What Lies Beneath
Where: Al Quoz
Until: Sunday, June 30
Sure, most of us love heading to the beach. But have you ever wondered ‘what lies beneath’? Well, at this immersive exhibition titled What Lies Beneath by Sydney-based media artist, multimedia and art director, Susan Kosti. The immersive 3d visualisations you will be immersed in are a portrayal of data that has been collected by NASA over the past 20 years. Expect a majestic and unpredictable wilderness beneath the waves, and while you will gasp at its beauty, you will also be made aware of the pressing issue of climate change and the dangers posed by the warming of our oceans. Go with an open mind and listen to the message of the ocean. The best news? It’s free to check out.
kanvas, Al Quoz, Dubai, Mon to Fri 10am to 6pm, free, Tel: (0)4 0242 8199, @kanvas_dubai
ToDA
What: Viva la Frida
Where: Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Until: Various dates until June 30
In the past, art fans heading to ToDA could immerse themselves in works of art from masters of the art world – Monet, Kandinsky, Vincent Van Gogh, and more. One thing is common from all those shows? Besides being brilliant artists, they were all males. However, ToDA is shaking things up this May with a solo show dedicated to the one and only Frida Kahlo. The show will highlight her turbulent life highlighting her intimate moments of both triumph and tragedy through the 360° immersive display. Check for your available dates here to book.
